The American Homeowner’s Foundation is the national educational and research organization representing the nation’s 70 million homeowners. AHF was established in 1984 as a 501 C-3 organization. The Foundation’s primary purpose is to provide unbiased information to help consumers make wise decisions when they buy, sell, remodel, build, finance, or invest in residential real estate. The Foundation publishes books, model contracts, special studies, and free brochures that are distributed through bookstores and national chains, the Foundation’s web site (, direct mail and a variety of other methods. AHF also provides free publications to other nonprofits whose mission is to assist economically disadvantaged citizens attain home ownership.

An important component of the Foundation’s educational efforts is our website (, which receives thousands of hits every month. The Foundation provides free educational materials on its website and by mail on request.

Another key component of our educational effort is AHF’s ongoing productive relationship with the nation’s 600 major real estate editors. AHF has been featured in major national newspapers (Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, etc.), magazines (Better Homes and Gardens, Good Housekeeping, etc.) and major industry trade publications (Builder, Remodeling, etc).
